'Bobbin's' and work stations will be provided. I only have enough for 10 folks to have hands on, but others may watch. You will learn how the Vikings used bobbins to weave 4 lengths of cording into a decorative and stronger cord. It's another way of making cording, like lucet or kumi-himo.

Beginning blackwork embroidery on counted thread cloth. Late 15th through early 17th Century decorative embroidery used on garb, table and bed linens. How to start, where to find resources and what to do with it once a piece has been completed.

In this class I will provide an overview of the machines commonly in use in Industries in Europe in the Medieval and Renaissance periods. I will discuss the different types of processes such as hammering and grinding and the critical design aspects of the machines. Additionally I will discuss power generation and transmission, and the proliferation of these facilities.

Bransles dances for everyone! In this class we will learn some common bransles that are used in the SCA. If you can walk you can probably do these bransles. This is an introductory class that explores the fencing styles of manual i33, the earliest surviving manual of fence. This class makes use of single sword and buckler. Please show up in armor. This is a two part class: first part is instructional on the style, the second part is a mock tournament using the style. Cut and thrust options are available for combatants who choose to fight in cut and thrust. Some loaner equipment will be available.

Second in the series of chainmaille weaves, this class will teach the Byzantine. This weave is beautiful and makes lovely bracelets and necklaces. Tools will be available for the class but feel free to bring your own. Class fee covers materials enough to make a bracelet approximately 7 inches in length.

An introduction to two common and still redily available pH reactive dyes. We will be making Red, Pink, and purple. Class will be provided with skeins of pre-mordanted wool suitable for embroidery or other small projects to dye and take home when finished. We will discuss the history of theses dyes along with the practical use of them. If time allows we'll also discuss several other period insect dyes that are not currently available. Skeins, lables, latex gloves, dye, and all needed materials will all be provided. **NOTE: CLASS IS MESSY!!! Please wear garb you don't mind staining! *Note: If there is excess dye left after class, students are welcome put in their own pre-mordanted skeins for dyeing to use up the vats. (please use Alum mordant, if you need instructions for mordanting in advance which needs to be done 24 hours before dyeing, please contact me).

This will be a hands-on introductory class teaching the basics and a bit of the history of bobbin lace as done in the 16th century.

Looking to learn how to move in rapier combat? Want to refine your current movements? Looking to add complexity to your footwork game? Ever wondered what a redouble or patanado are and how to do them? Just looking for a new way to do cardio? We'll do our best to cover it all! All levels welcome. This is a practical class; you will be moving. Wear comfortable clothes & shoes that won't interfere with your movement. A blade is optional, but will help the movements feel more grounded in the game we play. No other rapier equipment is required.

Try your hand at German Brick Stitch, a counted satin stitch style from 13th-15th century Lower Saxony and Westphalia. Students will leave with an understanding of stitch mechanics, a brief history of the style, and the beginnings a bookmark or cup cover. $5 kits will be available that include hoop, fabric, needle, and thread. Scissors will be provided. Suggested materials to bring if you do not wish to purchase a kit: For practice: - Plastic canvas, size 5 to 7 squares per inch and - Needle appropriate for using on plastic canvas - Thread sized appropriately for the plastic canvas in 1-2 colors, depending on how much you would like to practice. For cup cover/bookmark: - A small to medium sized hoop - A tapestry needle, sized appropriately for fabric count - Ground cloth of your choice, cut to 8in x 8in square. Size 28ct or 32ct cotton recommended for beginners, linen for those comfortable with it. Aida isn't recommended, but it can work in a pinch. - DMC or other brand cotton 6-strand embroidery floss in 2-3 colors.

This is an introduction to being a royal retainer for those currently serving as a retainer, may possibly be a retainer in the future or wonder what the people standing behind the big chairs are doing. We will discuss the responsibilities, etiquette, and expectations as well as the benefits of serving your royals or baronage in this position.

By 1600 there were a wide variety of pumps and hoists in common use in Europe. Most of these included design elements which are still in use around the world today. In this class I will provide an overview of the design and capabilities of period pumps and hoists focusing on Europe in the Renaissance. We will look at the components of the machines, how they were powered and what their capacity likely was. For both the pumps and hoists we will look at the various classes of designs, how they were different, and pros and cons of the different types. This includes likely applications such as in construction, cargo handling or mining.

From the very late 14th century to the 17th numerous fighting manuals, in German called Fechtbücher or fight books were produced. These manuals for the basis for the study of period fighting styles called Historic Martial Arts. The teacher will go over some of these, starting with the earliest known to the just out of period manuals including his own take on the styles as well as general tips for interpreting period sources for our game.

This is a demo and discussion class that addresses how to take basic SCA wardrobe staples like the T-tunic, and add a few accessories to obtain the look of a person from the Iron Age of Finland. This is appropriate for all ages and will cover men's and women's fashion.

Information on the basics needs for making a leather glove. Discussion on the leather, pattern stitches, thread and decoration. We briefly discuss gloves and their use throughout our time periods.

This class will cover a progression of 15th century Italian dances set for a single couple. Dances include Petite Rose, Leoncello, and Rostiboli Gioioso.

Assisi Embroidery is a form of counted thread embroidery used primarily in the 13th and 14th centuries in Italy on items for religious purposes such as altar cloths. By the 16th century this technique was also being used for household items such as pillows and aprons. It is characterized by a background filled with cross stitch, or long-arm cross stitch and the motif itself is left blank. In this class students will learn a little bit about the history of Assisi embroidery and will work on a small project to practice the technique. We will be stitching monograms which can then be turned into pin cushions or needle books. No prior stitching experience is required, and materials will be furnished for a small fee. The students will keep all their materials at the end of class so they can finish their embroidery piece.

We will discuss the historical reference and usages of daggers in rapier combat then shift into how we use daggers practically in SCA rapier. Topics may include - anatomy of a dagger (aka curved quilions rock), defensive uses (parry, locks), offensive uses, and related drills. We will be armoring up for drills so please wear and bring appropriate gear. Bring a rapier & dagger if you have them. Some loaners will be available, but limited quantities. All levels welcome & encouraged to attend.

Do you have a brilliant idea for a local event, or want to put in a bid for a Kingdom level event? Great! Now what? This class will be an opportunity to learn and talk about the event planning process from choosing a site, creating a budget, choosing and managing staff, preparing a bid, Spiking your event, promoting it, talk about day-of expectations, and after event follow-up. We will take a look at Atlantian specific bid and reporting requirements. This class will be recorded.

There is a brief history of chip carving and where you can find examples of it in period. I will discuss knife maintenance and knife positioning to make the cuts in the wood. This is a hands on class - we will start with some basic cuts and then move on to medium and some advanced designs and technique. We will also cover knife maintenance and sharpening.

One of the simplest forms of counted thread embroidery, found in many parts of Europe and North Africa during SCA period. A how-to-do class, materials provided.

First time in person and a hands on make and take! The lattice braid is used in multiple applications for Iron Age Finnish clothing, from a fine headband with bronze coil decorations to wider belts that tie on aprons. I shall teach the 17 strand braid, as the technique is applicable from a 9 strand necklace to a 33 strand belt. No experience or tools except your hands are necessary! All ages appropriate. Wool yarn is used to teach and acrylic yarn will be available so those with Wool allergies can participate. First 8 paid spots will be hands on. All others are auditing, which is encouraged even if the hands on spots are filled.

Students will learn the 16th century Italian dance Gracca Amorosa, with a focus on footwork and how to apply it to the rapier field. Rapier fighters are welcome.

This class will cover the basic methods and stitches used to create Punto in Aria (literally: stitches in the air in Italian) which is the first needle lace style to be created completely detached from the fabric ground. Students will need either really good eyesight or prosthetic eye enhancement (glasses.)

An overview of stance and footwork from Northern Italy in the late 16th/early 17th Century. We will cover basic stances, footwork, and how they influence time & tempo and distance & measure.

Socks are some of the very earliest true hand-knitting that we have in extant form. This class will explore one of these early socks.

This is a bands-on introductory class for people who are new to leathercraft and want to start simply. Students will be supplied with the basic tools needed to create leather projects with instruction on how to correctly use said tools, where to obtain their own tools, and basic techniques to make the simple things all SCA folks need. Students will make their own drawstring pouch out of leather.

Dance is Fun! Learn dances that were integral to Italian life. We shall learn the steps, the patterns, and do them to music while being called. Possible dances include: Amoroso, Petit Riens, Villanella. No partner necessary, no experience necessary, no special shoes. Just a desire to have fun!

You will learn how to do Viking wire-weave if you do not already know how. If you do, then I will instruct how to weave your wire onto the end of a sleeve as was done by the Vikings. Picture of Extant example will be available for review. I will provide all materials which inlcude cloth to weave on, wire and 'stick' along with tools to do all this. I only have enough for 10.

This is an introductory class following fencing master Marozzo's book 2 on cloak fighting. Please come in fencing armor for slow work, and a cloak.

Join Lady Argent and Maistra Lidia for an hour of nalbinding fun. Students will have the option of a beginners nalbinding refresher on the Oslo stitch, or more individualized problem-solving on stalled projects or puzzling stitches like the Mammen, Finnish, Dalarna, and others. Having trouble with the fiber you are using? Is the shape of your hat not what you want? We can put our heads together and get you back on track.
